Hi,

I am a brit on the verge of applying for my sponsorship visa for canada through my canadian gf.  Only problem left is that i was living in Australia for a year (2005) and i need a criminal record check done for Australia.  The cic website isn't very helpful as there is nothing I can find, stating what to do if you have lived abroad for over 6 months.

The obtaining police certificate part of the website says that forms should be sent to sydney in oz, though obviously i will be going through the canadian office in london, and not the one in sydney.  A full fingerprint check also has to be done (uk check and fingerprint done no problem), i have emailed cic weeks ago but had no reply, and their website states not to call them for information regarding visas.

so i was just wondering if there was anyone out there who could point me in the right direction for getting a criminal record check done in a country u have lived in for more than 6 months.

many thanks,

olly

Actually, you will need to apply directly to the Federal Police in Sydney.  But on your application, you'll request them to send the certificate to the canadian office in London.
