I am a nurse assistant for two years now in the Philippines. Is it possible for me to apply as a skilled worker even I didn't take the exam for LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing)? I took a caregiver course for 6 months after my 4-year-degree course.. and it just happened that I got the Nursing Assistant job..
Hope you can answer me.. thank u

Nurse Assistant position is not included in the 38 list qualified for fast track processing under skilled worker category. Only RNs, NUrsing supervisors and LPNs are qualified to apply in the field of nursing.

CarribRN!! Hi How are you. I have been looking for you. Please do tell me how you were able to get your Ontario nursing registration. I got their application package but one of the requirement is to be a landed immigrant? How about your nursing degree? Is it equivalent to the nursing degree in Canada? Please...

Hi Aspire! They did not mention anything about the requirement of being a landed immigrant to me when i applied with them. My nursing degree was initially assessed to be not equivalent but I made an appeal and sent them all supporting documents like the essay (equivalency form that they sent to me) ,certificates of continuing education, curriculum vitae, etc., and they eventually decided on approving my application under "forced registration" category, meaning my curriculum may have not been exactly the same as theirs but my job experience and further education and training have compensated for it making me eligible to safely practice nursing in their jurisdiction (of course, given I passed the CRNE, which I am planning to take this coming October).

Thank you very much CarribRN. So, even if you are not a landed immigrant they are accepting application for registration right? You just gave me very helpful tips. I have tons of continuing education certificates and licenses from American Heart Association, and I have wide experience in many special areas in a tertiary hospital. Do you think they will grant me registration too? My nursing degree is from the Philippines and I am currently here in KSA.
BTW, what is the visa office processing your application? Many thanks again. Seems you are in the final stage of your application. Wish you all the sucess.

Thanks, Aspire! Ditto! My visa office is Kingston, Jamaica. I think they would approve it, if not, they are going to ask you to fill out the equivalency form to know if you have the competency needed for an entry level nurse in their jurisdiction. This is the essay part that I submitted. 8 Questions in 8 different areas that you need to make an essay about. You need to hit as many competencies as possible in each essay that you're going to be writing. Better to have the copy of the CNO competencies when writing this.

If you are a seasoned RN with a 4-year BSN and a Masteral in your belt, most likely it is 100% approved. Having a Masteral for an international nurse could spell a huge difference when applying for registration with Ontario.
