NOC confusion

Hi,  My NOC code is 1244 as I am a legal transcriptionist.   It does not even appear on the CIC site when I do the online test and yet I remember doing another test on the CIC site (I get lost on that site obviously) and finding my code and thinking "Great, it's in the B list so I can apply."

Can somebody who is better at navigating NOC codes on that site let me know if this is an occupation that is wanted in Canada?  If it's not is it still worth my while applying for residency anyway?

The 29 NOC List

A skilled worker who has had 1yr of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time paid work experience in at least 1 of the following eligible occupations (NOCs) within the last 10yrs is eligible to apply:

3233 Licensed Practical Nurses
4151 Psychologists
4152 Social Workers
6241 Chefs
6242 Cooks
7215 Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades
7216 Contractors and Supervisors, Mechanic Trades
7241 Electricians (Except Industrial & Power System)
7242 Industrial Electricians

If u r not in one of the above, u might still make it as a PNP or in BC stream.

Thanks for your reply (I think).  I'm so frustrated coz I haven't been on here for ages because I've been waiting to accrue 4 years experience to apply for residency.  Then I come on all excited coz I can now do it and find out my occupation is not on the list

Do they change the NOCs regularly?  I mean what are the chances of my occupation (Court transcriptionist) or at least similar suddenly being on there in say six months time?  I have experience in social work but not in the last 10 years!  So frustrating!

I am trying employers to get a work permit but this is such a difficult route as well.  Seems so unfair that myself and many like me who are totally capable of establishing ourselves in Canada cannot apply because we don't 'fit' into the tightly defined rules.

Don't be frustrated.

If your profile matches with one of NOC as mentioned, you need to apply directlt at CIO, Sydeny.
AND if not, you need to apply at your local visa office with whatever credentials you have.

Hey Mr Rana,

Thank you so much for your advice.  I live in Queensland, Australia.   Do you know which local visa office I would apply to?  I did not know about this option.  Are you saying I can apply there even if my NOC is not currently on the list?

Sorry for my words. I was mistaken.
As per latest instructions from CIC, if you are applying under Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), either you need to be among
NOC29 codes or you need to have a job offer.

In both cases, the application must be submitted at CIO, Sydney-Nova Scotia (Canada).
You may also consider other 2 options: Provincial Nominee Or Quebec Skilled Workers. Check the following link:

In the worst case, you need to wait until June 2011 when new NOC may be introduced in the new year to match your job with them.
However, its only an idea. CIC may or may not continue this NOC program next year.

And not only that, keep in touch with all applications and documents at CIC website as immigration rules and regulation change with time.
You need to be fully updated to make sure that you are following the latest instructions/guides and filling the latest applications.
