NOC Clarification/ help required

December 2009 to December 2011 - my work permit is showing occupation as "Embedded sys software designer (NOC 9990.2)" (Under remarks section nothing has mentioned )

Jan 2012 to till date - work permit is showing occupation as "Software & Comp sys evaluators" (but under remarks section it is mentioned as "Intra company transferee.retained status as SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR .")

The thing is since my start(December 2009 till Now) I do system administrator duties only and confused what NOC should I use and not sure why CEC gave occupation as "Embedded sys software designer " in my previous work permit..

1.  9990.2 was a synthetic code for one of the 7 systems jobs that didn't require a LMO at the time the work permit was issued.  The only province where that is used now is BC and Quebec.
2.  So your latest work permit was issued under proper NOC and is probably 0213 if a manager if not, then it is in the 217* probably.

Can you please suggest the right NOC code that i can use for the below scenario.

Nov 2008 to may 2009 - work permit is showing occupation as "Embedded sys software designer (NOC 9990.2)" (Under remarks section has mentioned  my client name)

Jan 2010 to Dec 2010 - work permit is showing occupation as "Embedded sys software designer (NOC 9990.2)" (Under remarks section has mentioned  my client name)

Jan 2011 to Dec 2011 - work permit is showing occupation as "Software Developer  - Services (NOC 9990.5)" (Under remarks section has mentioned  my client name)

Jan 2012 to till date - work permit is showing occupation as "Software & Comp sys evaluators" (but under remarks section it is mentioned as "Intra company transferee. Occupation: systems testing technician.")

How my reference letter should in general can say a software engineer or should i mention each period as per the work permit.

1)   You are correct, 9990.2 was code for 7 systems jobs that didn't require a LMO at the time the work permit was issued.MY employer was required WP urgently that's why it was under this category however my job duties and responsibilities were submitted as per SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR.
2)   For latest work permit also my job duties and responsibilities were submitted as per SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR and CEC this time gave WP occupation shows as “"Software & Comp sys evaluators"
My job title (SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR), duties and responsibilities falls under NOC: 2281

No, if you use 2281 Computer network technicians and the experience letter is for 2172 Database analysts and data administrators  you will have a NOC mismatch and create all sort of problems for yourself in the application.

As per your reply I think you got in confusion I never stated that my experience letter is for 2172 Database analysts and data administrators. 

I do SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR job which falls under NOC 2281.MY EMPLOYER can provide the reference letter that since last two years I am working as SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR with duties above you mentioned.Please advise if this ok to use NOC. 2281.
however My concern was only I had "Embedded sys software designer" on MY WP of 2 years which you says is not a problem and it was given without LMO.

Hi omshri,

i am also on the same boat. i applied in oct 2011 as software engineer with NOC 2173 as my work permits were showing 9990.2 and 9990.5 at that time though my duties are of a software tester and mine was refused due to the absence of employer reference letter.

I did not request reference letter from employer earlier because the duties i perform does not match with the occupations in the work permits i hold at that time.

Mean while i got a work permit for 2012 with occupation as systems testing technician which is true to my duties and i am planning to reapply with employee reference letter this time. My employer would give reference letter with below duties which i am performing for the past three years and these are in match with systems testing technician.

my duties include for the past three years include:
1. Analyze requirements
2. Develop test plan
3. prepare test cases
4. Create test data and execute test cases

As my application refused earlier is having NOC 2173, wil this be a problem to reapply with 2283.
