can someone clearly inform me whether it is possible to be a self employed Construction Manager?  i am a civil engineer with extensive experience in obtaining contracts and then hiring all the subcontractors. I then spend my time supervising all the subcontractors for projects as hospitals, schools and highway construction.

Wink I think so, we're also applying under NOC 0711, but we're employed by a company.  I think what you'll need is a list of your projects and some letters of reference from the projects you've done as evidence.

Yes. That means you are a general/main contractor. You will need evidence of contract award to you or your company plus testimonials from clients.

Once you can get those items and more I think you should be fine.

hello!  Cheesy will there be any problem if on the form ( FSW schedule 3 on the main duties) does not reflect in verbatim the duties and responsibilities provided by one of the company's COE/LOE, but it is of the same context??? now preparing for docs to be sent.
thanks!!! Cheesy

I think it is very important that your letters of reference specifically refer to roles and responsibilities associated with those in the noc class. there is no problem if all criteria are not fully mentioned in the letters but the bones of them must be noc related. for example you could have a carpentry background but as long as you can show that you managed a team of carpenters on a site for a time and was responsible for their work, the programme, safety, quality and budget (all to a certain extent) then noc 0711 can be applied for. If however you were employed as an engineer and only get a letter from your employer to that extent, this might not suffice. Its very important that the letter makes reference to roles and responsibilities carried out that relate to the noc you are applying for. I hope this helps

well yes, all noc related, what i mean is on the form that was initially submitted where you need to fill up the main duties section, the ones issued by the employer were not word per word on the ones we wrote, but the context and the bones are the same, they were actually more elaborated and detailed, that is what i am confused about. thanks to your reply. Are you saying that your employer gave you a reference letter with duties and responsibilities that are more detailed than your initial submission? If yes you don't need to worry. However if what he wrote is lesser then I would be worried.

I applied under NOC 0711 as well.  I got my employer to write me a detailed experience letter based on the part of NOC description that pertained to my duties.

Anyone know of any certification programs that might help us under NOC 0711 find jobs in Canada?
