Hi I need clearance on something...please see email below I received from Buffalo today. I want to make sure they are only requesting clearance from NJ and not USA and India where I have lived because I already sent them that earlier and I can see fotocopies of those in my GCMS notes

This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada.

We have now completed the initial assessment of your application, and expect to finalize your application without a personal interview. While an interview does not appear necessary at this time, we reserve the right to call you to an interview, should this become necessary at some future stage in processing.

In order to continue processing your application, the following is required:

From each country/state where the residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance certificate for yourself. - State of New Jersey Police Certificate. This must be received at this office by: 12/15/2011

Unless original documents are specifically requested, please submit certified true copies of supporting documents. All Police Certificates must be original. They will not be returned to you.

So are they requesting PCC for NJ State right??

I received an almost identical request, pertinent part reading:

From each country/state where the residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance certificate for yourself. From the State of New Jersey This must be received at this office by: 02/26/2012

There's a typo in mine that is made clear by yours. But it still doesn't make sense. First, "country/state" suggests they are not talking about states in the U.S. sense of the word. Second, local police would provide better information. Also, I have lived in four states (including New Jersey), but currently live in New York. So why was New Jersey singled out?

I emailed the consulate, but their responses are usually not helpful. And they sure don't give you much time--about 8 weeks. So even if I get right on it, I may not have the information in their hands in time.

Many (most?) but not all states have integrated their criminal records data with the FBI's.  This is two requests for New Jersey, so it's probably a good guess that New Jersey is one of those that has not.. (I assume you have already provided an FBI certificate).

The language in the email appears to be quoting the general requirement when it says, "From each country/state where the residence period has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original police clearance certificate for yourself." The email then goes on to clarify that they are specifically requesting New Jersey.

I agree with jes_ON. Most states have either integrated their criminal records with the FBI's or at least update the FBI on a regular basis. I would guess since you both got requests for New Jersey certificates that means NJ is either not integrated or does not provide regular updates of its state criminal records to the FBI.

Thanks, guys. That makes sense about New Jersey. Of course they would have to be singled out. New Jersey does everything weird.
