Hey Guys,

I have started this tread so that new immigrants who intend to land in Canada in 2011 (those who have gotten their PR and/or are close to getting one in early 2011) can network and have a discussion on various issues:

1. Jobs
2. Transportation
3. Housing
4. Community Issues
5. Surviving the Canadian Weather
6. Miscellaneous Questions

So y'all out there who are planning on moving to Canada soon, let us connect with each other. Btw, I am planning to move to GTA. Brampton, North York and Mississauga are some areas I am considering right now. Let me know what y'all think about some good areas in and around Toronto and GTA.

Are any of you who are planning to land from the USA thinking of importing the car too? If there are any out there, let me know how y'all are doing the same. I hear cars are expensive in Canada compared to the States. However, I wonder if import duty will apply to a car being bought in US into Canda. Thanks!

I haven't got my visa but I have sent my Passport already.

If everything goes fine, I am planning to land in the month of March / April and looking to stay in and around Toronto.

Let me know if you know any good info on the accomodation around Toronto.

Nice to get some responses. How is the planning for your move to Canada going? Let us discuss some of the planning issues.

Also, was thinking that if some of you want to form a group in case you are planning to move to Toronto or GTA, let me know. Networking is essential to survive the initial months in Canada. And who knows, some of us may become good friends in real life too. Cheers Smiley

Very truly said..... Well I might not yet be at your stage to plan for landing (Med done and waiting for PPR) but if everything goes ok I look forward to land sometimes in 2011..... So am interested and will keep following you guys.... All the very best....

Hi,

Planning to land during April 2010. Scarborough and North York are the places in our mind at present. Thinking of booking 1 week accommodation with Safe homestay or Studio6. Any other suggestions?? We do not have any friends/relatives in Toronto....

hello! waiting for your passports with visas to be returned to us as well... hopefully will migrate in toronto at around july or august of this year... thanks for this thread... will appreciate learning from other's experiences... i heard the 1st year is the most difficult for immigrants and we should all be mentally and emotionally prepared for this... let's help out each other!

I have sent my passport to the VISA office and hope to get it back by February 2011. I am planning to land on August 2011  @  Vancouver.

I am a Telecommunication Engineer working in a Swedish Telecommunication Vendor also looking for job in Canada.
