hello... i would like to ask. i have heard that a new rule has been set for new comers workers that they can no longer apply for permanent residency after their contract is finished. is this true? if so, when was this implemented? does it include the live-in caregiver program?

The only workers who can not apply for permanent residency are low skilled workers except for certain professions under BC and AB nominee programs.

Skilled temporary workers can still apply for PR

Live-in caregivers can still apply for PR because they are under a special immigration program, not the regular low skill program.

PR=Permanent resident - TFW=temporary foreign worker
FSW=federal skilled worker - QSW=Quebec skilled worker
AEO=arranged employment offer - LMO=labour market opinion
CEC=Canadian experience class - PNP=provincial nominee program

arrived in quebec march 2008, worked with a family there for 5 months but quit. under a live-in caregiver program. moved and transfered to british columbia after 8 months. new employer applying for hrsdc. submitted thru fax.how long does this take? and when approved, how long would is the processing for the application for work permit take? would there be any problem with regards to moving and transferring from quebec to british columbia? is there anything else to apply? or just the employer to apply for the hrsdc confirmation and for the work permit for the caregiver. please advise as we still dont know how to go about it. thank you very much.
