Need some help

I am travelling to Canada and i am on H1B visa status in US. During getting boarding pass at the ticket counter i had to show my passport and as my passport is not machine readable ( Indian passport) i had to put all the information manually and one of the question was "are you a lawfully permanent recident ( green card etc) in US" and the Airline person for that question asked me to push NO button. After that it did not ask any other question like "if i am in any other work visa status?". ... at the end i got my boarding pass without any issue

Can someone please share experience if this is what happen if you are travelling to Canada and you are in H1B in US?
