Hong Kong is averaging 19 months for 80% of cases. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp#asia

They might send an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) advising you of your file number, how long they expect to take to process your file and how you can get in touch with them if they need additional information from you.

The visa office will later send you a letter telling you if an interview is needed or not. In that letter, it will also give you a file no for you to track the progress online (but based on what many others said, the website is not frequently updated). Afterwards, it will send you a letter requesting the certificate of no criminal record from the HK Police (if you are a HK resident)

Good luck!
