Hi all, My passport has been requested for visa stamping and I am currently trying to do a little bit of home work before I actually move to Canada. I have completed 15 years of full time study 10 + 2 + 3 college degree from India. Is this recognised as equivalent to bachelors degree in Canada or does it require 16 years like the USA. I am currently in the UK where I faced no such problem.

What do you mean?
Is it regarding employment, furthering your education or having it assessed and eventually recognized?.
If it is regarding employment - up to your future employer.
If it is regarding education - get it assessed from the body responsible for foreign credentials.

I doubt whether you will need a "Top up Year". You should be fine.

I am sorry, I should have been more precise.

I currently hold a Bachelors Degree with full time study of 15 years as it is normally in India. I did not face any problems when applying for a job in the UK as my qualification was considered equivalent to Bachelors Degree in the UK. My brother had major issues securing employment in the US which required a Bachelors degree he had not had 16 years of full time education.

My concern currently is only in regard to employment.

I am not able to answer your question further as I am also in the UK and don't know much about Education standards in North America and the States with respect to securing a job.

Leon, PMM and Rupeshhari may be able to answer the question to your satisfaction.

Having said that, I do however think that experience plays a very important role in securing jobs.

While exceptions exist, generally, Canadian employers don't regard degrees other than those from Western countries equivalent to a Canadian degree.
