hi. i am currently a permanent resident of canada. i have a PR card. i went to canada in oct 2006 for a month n got my PR card and social security card etc. i got immigration through my father as when they applied i was under 22 years. the problem i have is that i came back to pakistan in order to complete my bachelours but due to some unfortunate consequences it mite take longer as it was supposed to end till may 2009.but now it may extend till dec 2009. As far as i know there is a requirement that you can only stay out of canada for about 3 years out of a period of 5 years. so according to this my 3 years end in oct 2009. please advice me what should i do as i really want to complete my bachelours and then go to canada.
if i stay till december what will be the consequences?
can this 3 year period be extended?
looking forward for your replies. thank you

It's pretty simple. If you want to remain PR of Canada you will have to meet the PR requirements and move to Canada in October. If you don't return to meet your PR requirements you will lose your status and have to reapply.

A few years ago Canada extended the period you can be outside Canada from 6 out of 12 months to 3 out of 5 years. Believe me, they think you already have plenty of wiggle room. It is very unlikely that they will extend your 3 years. You are granted PR because you wish to live in Canada. Not because you might possibly want to live in Canada at some point in the future if it is convenient for you.

You lose your Canadian Permanent residency unless you are living with a close family member who is a Canadian citizen such as parent or spouse or you file for Humane and Compassionate ,There is a such a case using the nest theory,It works like this,After you file,The judge weighs where you ties are stronger Pakistan or Canada,Where did you build your nest,If Canada you get to keep your PR if Pakistan you lose your PR because you obviously prefer to make your life in Pakistan and anyway you can always visit Canada for the rest of your life as a Tourist
