ccbert, when you say taxes you mean the car insurance that I have to pay? I know that is too much insurance, it is not worth it at all, I could buy a new car altogether. But I notice the cars in Canada is more expansive than in USA. What do you mean when you say things to follow? when I landed they gave me a form to fill out the items I am going to import without any taxes, so one of the item i included was my car. What you mean by taxes? you do not need any taxes if you want to import your car, did I answer your question?

Thank you for your input, this was exactly what I was asking, when do you land, did you paid taxes for your car? and you already answer that, so when I land mainly I need to paid for daylights conversion and find a cheap car insurance.

Peace!

No cheap insurance companies Smiley  But likewise, I didn't know any Canadian companies.  Mine is with Dominion, but I went through a broker (not direct), I don't know if that makes it cheaper.  The few I called directly were much higher.  TD Insurance is another option, because my employer has some kind of group rate with them (I'll probably switch).

State Farm, so you will insure in the USA?  I don't know if it is "expensive" because I don't know where you live or what your driving / insurance history is.  Did you have auto insurance before?  If this is the very first time you're getting insurance, you will have to pay more...  You could get a rate quote from GEICO just to compare - but know that service is much better (usually) from State Farm than GEICO.

I don't think there's any reason why you can't stop the import process, you will have to re-do everything when you decide to import (e.g new inspection).  And you should change your driver's license back to the state where you live...

Hi Jes_ON, State Farm is not only in uSA but in Canada as well. I live in NY and I have 3 year driving experience, I am insured with GEICO and I pay $200/6 months. So changing from GEICO to State Farm Canada is a lot.

But the thing is I already payed RIV, then safety and emission tests, also govenment now knows that I am importing the car, so since I claimed that I landed that means by their regulations I have to import (as I listed in the form) my car within 3 months or even less period. Although, if I stop i will lose some money because of inspections, but how about the goverment regulations?

Sorry, as I mentioned, my vehicle was exempt so I don't have any experience with the importation process.  You can call them and as - Go here - you can check the status your case number etc. online -

https://www.riv.ca/ImportingAVehicle.aspx

My concern would be - if you have already completed the import process, the car is now officially "Canadian" and to register it in the US, you'd have to export it back to the US.

If you HAVEN'T completed it, but change your mind, I think that's OK but you won't get any refund of fees.

Interesting about State Farm - goes to show (again) that all information is subject to change...

Hi Jes_ON,

Thanks for the information, i tried to go on riv.ca to check my status but i could not find how? basically, I already passed my provicial test (RIV) also my safety and emmission test are done and passed. what do you mean by i have completed the import process? is it concerned completed im my case? what left for me is to write an insurance policy, then go to licencsing office and licensce my car, and also get the plates that is all. Is this considered completed the import process?

you should definately check with state farm also i found BelairDirect insurance gives me $130 / per month, but the other ones around $200/per month, you can check that at https://www.belairdirect.com/indexonen.htm

Border9999, I can't tell you any more.  Click on the link that I sent previously.  On the right, there is a link that says "Track my case".   Alternatively, click on the link at the top that says "Contact Us" and do so.
