Hi,

My wife and I just received our marriage certificate in the mail, so we are working to finish completing the PR forms.

She is an American and we were married in Hawaii.  When she was signing the marriage license, she used my last name in the "Declared Name" signature box.  She was surprised by the officiant telling her that she had to choose whether she would change her name at that very moment (We were planning on making a final decision in that regard sometime after the wedding).  As of right now, mostly for professional reasons, she is keeping her maiden name.

Does anyone know if CIC (and more generally, the Canadian Government) would have any issue accepting a marriage certificate with a declared name that differs from the name she is currently using? Her full maiden name does appear on the certificate, so I am assuming that there shouldn't be any significant issues.

Thanks,
Chad

No, it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, does CIC require an Apostille for marriage certificates from the US?

You should note that the visa and PR card will be issued in the name on her passport.
