I am new to this forum & after reading all the pages in the forum,i would like to thank all the members especially hmisabpk for providing so much of use full information that a new comer landing in Canada should be knowing. Currently I am based in UAE & will be landing by march second week only for few days( may be 5 days) to complete my landing procedures. We do have 2 options where to land either in Calgary ( where I have my relatives )or Toronto where I don't have any friends or relatives. We are planning to settle in Toronto when we move permanently by 2013 since myself & my wife are working in IT field & i hope Calgary don't have good IT prospects compared to Toronto. Highly appreciate if some information can be provided on the below query. • If i land in Calgary & give the Calgary address for delivery of PR card & SIN card will it affect when i move to Toronto later.( i will be landing in Calgary only to complete my landing procedure-to apply for PR & SIN card)
• I intend to take my driving license from Toronto when we move permanently by 2013 & so will it be a problem if i have taken the PR card & SIN card from Calgary.Do i have to show some proof of residence or minimum stay in that place to apply for the driving license in in Toronto?
• During the first trip i am planning only to carry just the DD/Amount showing the POF.So do i have to disclose the amount /DD in the goods to follow list which will be carrying later when i move permanently in a later stage.
• In case if I plan to land in Toronto with my family ( my wife & 3 year old daughter)for my landing formalities by March, will it be too cold since I am mainly concerned with my 3 year daughter
• In case if we land in Toronto for my landing formalities how much days I will be requiring to take my G1 driving license since I heard there is a letter provided from the UAE authorities regarding my current DL in UAE which can be given to the concerned authorities in Toronto & I can skip the G2 driving test & get the G1 license after giving a test.

Hi, redindian22,1. It will not affect 2. You can proceed for driving license in Toronto 3. You don't need to disclose DD in goods to follow list 4. It will be manageable, (You need to cover her properly when going out with good warm winter cloths) 5. First week you can go for G1 license, yes you can skip G2 and straight you can go for G (full license) need theory practice on internet ( http://www.apnatoronto.com/ontario-g1-test/ ) and few hours' road practice by driving instructor to familiar with local rules and signs. Hope that's help, hmisabpk

We ( myself, my wife & 3 year daughter) have decided to land in Toronto to complete our landing formalaties by second week of march.
Since we will be flying back in 4 days after landing could you pls recomment a hotel to stay which is nearby to place where we can apply for SIN cards.
Since we plan to permanently move only by 2013, is it recommended to open a bank account now since we are not planning to deposit any money during our first visit.
Also is there any good tourist destinations around toronto to be seen in 4 days.Is Niagra falls near by & is there is public transport to visit the Niagra falls or is it recommended to take tours.

But you need a Canadian address in order to receive the PR card.Since we plan to permanently move only by 2013, is it recommended to open a bank account now since we are not planning to deposit any money during our first visit. You can do it later. Also is there any good tourist destinations around toronto to be seen in 4 days.Is Niagra falls near by & is there is public transport to visit the Niagra falls or is it recommended to take tours. You can visit the following tourist attractions in Toronto: Wonderland, Toronto Zoo, CN Tower. Niagara Falls is about 1.5 hours trip by bus. For details, check this website: http://www.greyhound.ca/ You can also join local tours to Niagara Falls or nearby cities such as Kingston, Kitchener and Ottawa

Hi, redindian22,Steaky replied your queries and He is right. I would say: 1. It is not a problem everywhere you can find the Service Canada office in Toronto (for SIN card). Near to centre city more than 10 offices are located. Other good things all offices are just walk able distance from subway station. Find an office close to your hotel/guest house, please go to the link below and enter the postal code of area where you plan to stay, or just enter Toronto and search the location. You can take taxi to reach the office it won't be expensive. http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/cgi-bin/sc-srch.cgi?ot=&ln=engFollowing is the list of reasonable short stay:http://www.safehomestay.com/index.htmlhttp://www.staystudio6.com/http://www.darryhouse.net/dh/index.htmhttp://www.alisaguesthome.com/http://www.overseashome.ca/index.phphttp://www.alfredfurnishedapartments.ca/http://sunnynewcomer.com/2. It is up to you, no harm to open the account as there will be no charges or fee for first year. It will be easy, safe and convenient to transfer money to your account from any part of the world. 3. In month of March still extreme cold weather and snowing will be continuing, secondly you have only 4 days to stay. There will be no much time to visit all top attraction or tourist points. However, you can check the following links to select where you would like to go first, rest can be plan in 2013. For Niagara fall details are in link below, tour will be better as they will guide you properly. Toronto Attractions - Galleries, Museums:http://www.toronto.hm/attractions.htmlOntario attraction:http://www.ontariotravel.net/TCISSegmentsWeb/main.portal?language=ENOntario attraction video:http://www.ontariotravel.net/videos/home/Video.html?modus=fp-vid&language=enLast but not least Canada attraction (all provinces):http://caen.canada.travel/provincesHope that helps, hmisabpk
