Possibly another interview.

Thanks for your reply! But would you know how long it would take for him to get any news regarding his security interview? The officer which interviewed my husband said the interview went well but she needed to send it to Ottawa for a reply...

Sorry. Can't give you definitive information. Very little data available to compare it with others as security interviews are not very common. The length of time depends on whether further checks need to be done by CSIS and how quickly they report their results to CIC. What was the reason for the interview?

Oh i see.. Well i'm assuming the reason for the interview was to get some info about him claiming refugee in the UK, because most of the questions were regarding this area. They didn't want much information about our relationship because the officer said she had no problem with the genuineness of our relationship. Its so frustrating now we've been waiting 2 years now and i don't know what will happen even though the officer was very pleased with the interview, we have no assurance of anything happening, and another thing is that i'm pregnant and would love for my husband to be here when our baby arrives! ..

I had my security interview on September 20th this year in Vienna and VO send it for a review to CBSA in Canada. After that VO sent me a letter to redo my medicals on December 6th. So it was around 2.5 months wait for me on that part.
There's another case that I know of and it took around 3.5 months after the interview. No ground rule for time frames cause every case is different.
I Hope this helps and I hope it will be over soon, 2 years is a long wait... Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Serdj977! I guess it does differ from case to case im really hoping mine takes 2.5 months that wouldn't be bad. Did they also ask a redo for the police report? And Yesss 2 years is very long.. torture to be away from my husband esp when i need him at this time!

No problem, glad to help It's way easier when you know at least something about time frames. I received letter by regular mail with form and instructions in it for redoing medical. There wasn't request to send new police certificate. I was confused about it and started new topic here with that question. My police certificate also expired. Thing is, medical is most important because you can't land without valid one (I knew that) but VO may ask (or not) for new police certificate. It's up to them. Things you can do : First give them time, around 2 or 3 months after the interview. Then send email to your VO for followup. That's how I found out where my file was sent. VO will probably tell you to what agency your husbands file was assigned to. Then you can send email to that agency and inform yourself. Be advised to read the rules on their website about emailing before send emails to those agencies.

Thanks Serdj977, Im glad someone can give me some feedback on this topic seeing security interviews are not as common as normal immigration interviews. You know what I was actually thinking of going to my MP and getting them to send in a letter for a followup on my husbands file. Seeing they are also a good resource and they can get info faster than I can. & Thanks for the suggestions, i will definitely look into that as well.

MP's are helpful when you don't have feedback from your VO about your inquiry or no feedback at all for a long time. My wife's MP contacted our VO and four days later they invited me for an interview. It was after 8 months of waiting for VO to contact us and provide some info about our application. VO are obligated to respond to MP's inquiries. On the other hand MP's can't get any info on your behalf from agencies like CSIS or CBSA.

Yes, that's what happen with my husbands file.. When I had contacted my MP and they got back to me regarding whats going on in my husbands file she had told me its in background check and we can not do anything until its done. And the background check took a year until we got a letter for his interview but even now due to the security interview i'm not sure if the background check is done. I'm just hoping that this upcoming new year we will get an answer if not i will definitely contact my MP and if anything can be done so i can have my husband here for the birth of our child.

I received a letter for an interview for my husband and when I asked my MP to inquire about it, they told her that it is going to be a security interview. MPs are good to get information that the VO won't bother to tell you. We don't have the date for our interview yet, it'll be between february and april.
I thought that after the interview if everything is good they give u the visa right away.. I guess we still have a while to wait still.

It's not done yet... Interview and it's verification in Canada is part of background checks so it's still pending. When VO send invitation for him to redo medicals bc's are done.

Hi liza, Sorry to know that you are helplessly waiting for your partner for a long time. It is far beyond the normal processing period for a spouse, even though the VO tell about security interview or what ever it may be. I doubt your husband's file is either misplaced or left un-attended in a filing cabinet. I agree with you for seeking the assistance of the MP. Simultaneously you can make a CAIPS/GCMS request of the case. So you will exactly come to know what is going on currently on your husband's file. If you need any assistance from me please send me a PM. Good luck.

Yes, you know what they will almost never give u a visa right away when u have a security interview for the reason that the officer that is interviewing can not make the decision and has to make a report then send it off for a review. It would of been great if they could, i thought the same thing.. if the interview goes well they would take my husbands passport right away and get him his visa. Its just a waiting game.. hope u get a response soon! Waiting for mine
