I am sponsoring my husband to become a permanent resident in Canada. On Sept. 19 we received our acceptance in principle, and a few days later, the requests for an immigration medical, and criminal records from his home country. When we received the acceptance in principle it also told us to contact MSP to see if he was eligible for coverage. We sent all of our documents to MSP and less than a week later my husband had a medical emergency. This required an ambulance and emergency room, as well as follow-up visit, and now we have a $5,000 bill at our door. Given that we have just applied for MSP will he be able to get retroactive coverage? Does anyone have any suggestions about how to go about this? Or a similar experience??

Many thanks!

Definitely keep your receipts as you should be able to get your money reimbursed.  I dont think the ambulance portion would be though.

I would call MSP and speak to a representative.  They will be able to give you an answer.  Good luck!
