Hey guys, is anyone in here taking their pet with them to Canada? Or know of anyone who moved to Canada with their pet?

I recently adopted a puppy, and I definitely want to take him with me to Canada. Does anyone know the process? I hope its not anything difficult.

For more info- I live in the USA and adopted the puppy from here.

You need a vaccination certificate.  You can find the general instructions for dogs here: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/imp/petani/canine.shtml

and here are the instructions specifically for a dog under 8 months who is coming from a non-rabies free country: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/imp/petani/canin2e.shtml

The rule is that you need to be able to prove current rabies vaccination.

I've crossed the border numerous times (both directions) with my Boston Terrier (who happily sits in the passenger seat, whether there is a passenger, or not) and not once have I ever been asked to present his paperwork (even though we always carry it with us.)

This is at Peace Arch or Pacific Crossing between Washington State and British Columbia.

my husband is bringing our chow chow with him when he comes in a few months. Canada only requires a valid rabies vaccination. he will be flying in on an airplane so we have to check airline policies as well such as an IATA acceptible crate and health certificate. as early as november last year we started crate training him to get him comfy in the crate and reduce unnecessary stress on both our ends.
