Hello everyone. I am new to this site but am so happy you are all on here. The amount of information and support rocks! My wife lives in BC and I live in NY. Our application is at the 1st phase of the process. I want to move to Canada and wait with my wife. Can this be done? Is it illegal? Thank you  |

You can visit your wife, but you can't technically move to Canada. You won't be able to work or study while in Canada either. The best way to proceed is to arrange for your wife to come with you across the border with proof that you've paid the fees and submitted the application for PR. It would also be a good idea to have proof that you have funds to support yourself while you're in Canada or proof that your wife will be able to support you.

Thank you for the response. The plan is for the two of us to drive over together. Are referring to the application fees? I understand that you can stay for up to six months. What is unclear is, who gets to make that decision. I hope it is not up to the boarder agent. Thank you for the feedback. |

Hi jkemp,
When you cross the boarder you need not mention about your PR processing. Once you get the passport request, I hope it would be within the six months, you can leave Canada and submit it for visa stamping. How you spend your time in Canada during the waiting (visiting ) time, is up to you and your wife. Cheers!!

Just be honest when questioned, you should be fine.

How you spend your time in Canada during the waiting (visiting ) time, is up to you and your wife. Cheers!!
Other than the obvious, you cannot work or take part in education > 6 months. |

Why would you advise that? The OP should advise the border officer that there is a PR application in process and provide proof of the application like the fees receipt, sponsorship approval letter or AOR. |

i flew over from the uk to visit my wife whilst we're waiting for our spousal visa to be processed
i was asked only the following
(i was in the queue for connecting flights)
Q. where are you flying on to?

(have return flight booked but he didn't ask to see that)
he then said

but obviously would answer any question truthfully if he hhad asked

ould he have had information on his computer that we have a pr application in?

Well congratulations to you! You must be so happy. Is that a long flight? Well I plan on driving across country and then across the border. I am just curious if my plates and me driving would be a problem. I plan to stay for six months, and if need be another six. I guess I will see. Thanks for the feedback and god bless.
