Moving to Canada

I am planning to go to Canada in december 2008, because my boyfriend lives there. As Slovenian citizen I can stay there for 6 months without visa.Now I am wondering if I can get work permit in Canada in case I find work there or do I have to leave Canada, go back to Slovenia and ask for work permit to get approved. :S It is hard decision to make so I have to get all informations about this.
