mistake on graduation date

please help me out guys. I made a mistake in spouse graduation date in application to sydney. now i have to send the application and supporting documents to buffalo,new york. Should i send the application with the corrected date and explain about my mistake in covering letter or do i need to email regarding my mistake?

Write a letter explaining the mistake and submit with other documents.

thanks for your suggestion. The duration of the study is going to be the same as stated with the correct date of graduation.
