Ok, here is a good question; Does anyone know if Mexican nationals need to have some sort of visa to do a layover flight in, say, Houston, Texas U.S.? We have been checking out all of the flights from Mexico and it looks like the majority of flights have a stop over in the U.S.

Information on US transit visas is here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_4383.html

Some countries are exempt. I don't believe Mexico is one of them:

I think we are going to run into problems because my husband was in the U.S. illegally for 10 years. This probably means he will need a direct flight from Mexico to Canada. What do you think?

If he was in the US for 10 years illegally and they know it - then he has a ten year ban from entering the US which started when he left the country. Even if these 10 years has elapsed, it will probably be difficult to be approved for a transit visa. Go for the direct flight.

Thanks Charlie and Skylla. I agree with you guys. Direct flight it will be! Now, we just have to pass the first step and get the sponsor approval. First things first!
