Totally not immigration related but I have a question about calling a cell phone in Mexico.

I have a group of friends that travelled there 2 days ago. They are borrowing a mutual friends local cell phone to use while they are travelling around. I attempted to call the number from my cell with a calling card. All I get is silence or it rings and rings and no one answers. They have texted me no problem but the calling seems to be an issue.

When they gave me the number it was +4455.... but when I looked online it says when dialing Mexico just use +55..... I have tried both and neither seem to work.

Any suggestions or ideas or advice??

Thanks. Cheesy

If you are in Canada... (at least this worked for me calling my b/f's cell in mexico) 011-52-1-XXX-XXX-XXXX if you call a landline then you usually can drop the 1 after the 52.

Goodluck!

Thank you. Grin I am going to try this today. I just hope I don't eat up their minutes from an incoming call.  Roll Eyes

 @  Dorely

I gather from your posting that you have applied outland (Mexico VO) but are currently in Canada and have been asked for the informe de datos registrales.

But I am confused because you say you received the letter from the embassy but then you ask about how to receive the letter from the embassy......

As you may or not be aware there are 2 different documents for federal police checks from Mexico.  One is the Informe de datos registreales and the other is the Constancia de Antecedentes Regístrales.

You should provide the document requested.  (If you are asked for an informe get the informe if you were asked for a constancia get the constancia.)

Usually the informe is for people residing OUTSIDE of Mexico and the Constancia is for people residing  INSIDE Mexico.

The instructions for the Constancia can be found here:
http://www.pgr.gob.mx/TransFoc/antecedentes%20registrales.asp

The instructions for the Informe can be found here
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/outside-mexico.asp

Good luck and let us know how it goes

Since we are talking about the constancia vs the informe.

For thos people IN Canada that have applied outland, have you been asked to send the Informe or the Constancia?

Thanks
