How has your husband found the job situation in Playa del Carmen ? Was it easy for him to settle ? My Fiance is thinking of moving there in September from GDL but its an unknown territory for both of us so any info you have would be great !

He has been in playa del carmen for just over 2 years now.. people seem to change jobs a lot there.. and during the off seasons its very difficult to find a job or they let people go because they are just not busy enough when it isnt high-tourist season... there are soo many tourist places you can work though its just a matter of finding one that doesnt have a terrible salary or make u work crazy hours..
im sure theres issues like that everywhere though.. he recently left the company he worked at for a year and a half and then went through 2 crappy jobs before he found one he liked..

Question for those of you who are currently with your husbands...

In my situation I am in Canada and my husband is in Mexico...
I am confused as to how some canadians are living in Mexico while you wait for the papers?
My impression was that I had to be in Canada the whole time so I can have a job here and prove that to the government in order to be his sponsor. Is that not true?
Can I quit my job and go to live in Mexico??

I agree with another poster on here that stated although the salary would be much lower there would be a huge cost savings from not having to travel... because i used up all my vacation time for our wedding i can only see my husband on long weekends and i end up spending $600-700 to see him for 2 days.. its nuts ...im so sick of the 2 day trips and so broke from the flights..  so if theres another way for me to be with my husband please send your ideas my way!!

I agree with another poster on here that stated although the salary would be much lower there would be a huge cost savings from not having to travel... because i used up all my vacation time for our wedding i can only see my husband on long weekends and i end up spending $600-700 to see him for 2 days.. its nuts ...im so sick of the 2 day trips and so broke from the flights..  so if theres another way for me to be with my husband please send your ideas my way!!

If you are a Canadian citizen, you can sponsor your husband even if you are living outside of Canada.   You just need to prove you intend to move to Canada once he is a PR.

If you are a Canadian PR, you have to be living in Canada to sponsor him.

Yesss you most definitely can move to Mexico and just update your address with CIC.  I live in Mexico with my SO while we wait.  Unless if you are only a permanent resident of Canada then you'd have to stay in Canada to sponsor.  But if you are a Canadian Citizen, you can live in Mexico and wait it out there.   In my case I've been living here for just over a year and I sent in proof of how we are going to settle back in Canada when we move.  You don't necessarily need to show them a job offer as of course most employers will not hire you 9 months in advance without knowing an exact date you are able to start but just a plan.  Maybe a letter from a family or friend saying that you guys can stay with them while you find a place to live etc. (not sure about your situation)  but anything that will help prove you will go back to Canada when he gets PR.

I was under the same impression, and that's why I came back to Canada after we got married to process the paperwork. I didn't want to take the risk of delyaing it because I was outside of Canada. But then a friend of mine sponsoring her husband from the US, was approved as a Sponsor while she was outside the country. Anyway.. if you applied in March.. hopefully it won't be much longer until you're approved. I'm not sure what would happen if you left after you had been approved? I stayed in Mexico for a while, my only job option was to teach English, but for Mexico that is a pretty decent salary. So if your husband is working and you teach english.. you should have enough to live. If you're in the Playa de Carmen area.. you may have more job option. Once you are married in Mexico.. you can work almost right away. I know it's terrible to be seperated right after you get married.. but hopefully Step 1 will be over soon at least. Yep!  if you are Canadian you don´t have to be in Canada while you wait.  I am Canadian and have been living here in Mexico for a little over 3 years now!  Sure makes the process much easier!  I think I would be way more stressed out if I was in Canada and my husband in Mexico. 

Like others have said, just make sure you can prove that you plan on going back to Canada before or when your SO gets the visa!

Here's my two cents, for what it is worth. If your case is straightforward, the waiting will go quickly if you can find a way to bide time or can afford the long weekend travel.  If you feel you can't sit tight, and if you suspect your case may be outside the definition of "simple" - go be with him.  If I had even the slightest idea when we started all this that we would still be waiting, I would not have hesitated for a moment to pack it up to wait with him in Mexico.  Weigh the pros and cons very honestly with your husband, but ultimately:  trust your instincts on this one.

Our issue is he had a past deportation.. from what I was advised the impact is we will have an extra 2 months added to our wait and an extra $400 for the letter we need signed by the immigration ministor..
I am really so worried about it.. and i have no issue with living in mexico..i just want to be with him i dont care where.. so i guess thats why im looking into the option of moving there while waiting for the papers..because who knows what the timelines really could be..

Could you take a LOA from work for a couple months? I know how hard it is to be apart. We did the long distance thing for 1 year before I moved to Mexico it was so hard to leave each time.  I was able to take a 2 month LOA and at least that helped a bit.
If you do decide to go it would help out on the proof of a genuine relationship but ya you'll definitely want to come up with a plan as to how you're going to prove the move back to Canada.  Let us know what you decide

The important thing to remember here is that the fast approval cases you are reading about on this thread are often best case scenario, i.e. absolutely zero complications.  The longer timelines have complications of some degree and processing time varies - A LOT.  At the end of the day it is a judgment call on your personal situation.  Reach out to seniors on the forum, do some digging about timelines with cases similar to yours involving deportation.  Your application may very well be really strong; but if there are any factors outside the norm (i.e. living in other countries legally or not, deportation, military service, ex-spouses and children etc.etc.etc.), then do not expect a speedy turnaround.  If it happens that way - great, bonus!  All I'm saying here is that your timeline expectations may need to be adjusted and tailored to your specific situation.   If waiting it out in Mexico is not problematic, then by all means go for it.  Being together, wherever that may be, certainly removes one aspect of relationship stress that you would otherwise have to deal with during a potentially lengthy separation.  Good luck, whatever you decide!

Yes agreed - every bit of extended time we can use to be with our spouses does help.  I have been fortunate enough to have been able to take several extended vacations to be with my husband in Mexico, and when I ran out of vacation time my employer was flexible enough to give me brief periods of leave without pay.

My dilemma at the moment is do I plan another trip to Mexico this summer...or do I allow myself to believe the end is in sight and save vacation for when he arrives???  I'm hopeful that we're going to be wrapped up by the fall but it is impossible to know for sure.  It is so hard to figure out what to do -- our whole immigration process has been less than transparent!

When was the last time you saw him? I would say you are at the end and will get PPR soon. But I know there are no FOR SURES when it comes to CIC.
