Thanks itscoezy! Yeah Sadly Vancouver and it's surrounding region is situated on what is called "The Ring of Fire" which are unstable tectonic plates , but let's hope that nothing ever happens!
How is Vancouver Island btw? I've heard it's quite beautiful and not as rainy as Vancouver. I personally HATE the rain. I'm moving to Montreal, but I'm landing in Toronto because my wife lives in Hamilton, which is why I couldn't take advantage of the Quebec programme, but once I land and receive my SIN and PR Card, we're moving out of Hamilton (Hate that place)
Ah i haven't actaully been to Montreal! Would love to go though! Do you know French too? I absolutely LOVE the rain. LOL. I guess it all depends where you come from It's true, Vancouver and even Vancouver Island has crazy amounts of rain. Vancouver Island is beautiful. Not too small, not too big. Great scenery, mountains and ocean within a 20 minute drive (at least in the area that I grew up .... ) it's perfect .

Yeah I speak French, but here in Mexico City I seldom have the opportunity to use it, and after so many years I'm sure I'll have to spend a month or two in an intensive course. No problem though, anything for Montréal. Vancouver Island does sound like an interesting place, but the rain is a deal-breaker for me. In fact here in Mexico City from June - September I'm the grumpiest guy around! When I first went to Montreal it was love at first sight! There is just something about that place that screams "Home" for me. I've always been a big city fan, I can't live in small towns or bedroom communities, I like to be in the middle of the action, but they say everything in excess is bad for you, and after living in Mexico City I found this to be true. While I love Mexico city, it's just too big for me. Montreal is the perfect size, and it's like it was made specifically to cater to my needs, efficient public transportation (super important as I don't like to drive), affordable housing, lots of restaurants and nice places to have a cup of coffee, festivals all the time, cultural events, great universities (I'm going back to school, so this is important for me), ski resorts within a 90 minute drive, etc. Also did I mention the food? I found very good Mexican restaurants there, and having a place to buy tacos and tortas makes the transition a lot less difficult hahaha!

Just want to comment on the inland vs. outland route asked by Julie:
Inland, in my opinion, should only be used in specific circumstances (it takes around two years to get PR this way, 9 months to get an open work permit after you are approved as a sponsor and then another year and to get the PR)
Although your husband cant work in Canada, he can wait with you in Canada and you can still apply out land to Mexico City even thought he is in Canada as a visitor while you two wait out the PR. Since he has a multiple entry he can always leave and re-enter, as well as extend the visa for an additional 6 months, making him able to wait out the full out land process in Canada (although at this time Mexico city is taking roughly 6 months so there may be no need for an extension)
I dunno how much you have researched about the process or if this is a still a little confusing - but I would be happy to clarify more since my SO and I also had to make the same choice of inland vs. out land!
We are applying outland to Mexico city and my SO is happily in Canada as a visitor.. although he can't work here, the money with not having to fly back and forth to see each other is well worth it.. Suerte!

Hi everyone, I could use some help especially from those in the US.
The VO emailed my husband today about our request to withdraw our TRV application which the IO recommended. They said we needed to mail them a prepaid DHL. Actually the wording is this:
-1 PREPAID AWB (Guía Prepagada) FROM DHL, RED PACK OR ANY COMPANY OF YOUR CHOICE.
What is an AWB/Guia Prepagada?
When I mailed the application in the first place, I asked the guy at the store that does DHL, FedEx etc to give me a prepaid envelope to mail to Mexico. He said the computer would not let him do that. Very frustrating. Do you think he is just stupid?
I want to get this prepaid envelope mailed off today. I am going to call DHL but any advice welcome!
Thanks!

I just got off the phone with DHL and they said they cannot do a prepaid envelope and have never offered this service. So what do I do now?!

I just talked to DHL in Mexico and they cannot do it either. Only if I was IN Mexico. So they are telling me to call DHL in the United States and ask for a Destination Request Service. Ahhhh.

Well I have to sign up with a business account in order to do a destination pick up although I am not even sure that is what the VO wants. I am going to email them back but they take awhile to respond and when I call they have a recording that says no one takes calls ever, basically, so I cannot talk to a person. I know we don't need his passport back anytime soon since we are only one month in and I am glad our application was withdrawn but I cannot figure out how to solve this.

Canadiangirl78, I actually have sent packages to Mexico via FedEx in the past. I set up my own FedEx account and it allows you to print and AWB (air waybill). You could print it and send it to them.

Thank you. For some reason I thought only DHL worked with Mexico. We do have a FedEx account from when we mailed in the FBI fingerprinting. I keep seeing the term air waybill and when I talked to DHL Mexico they kept asking me for my air waybill number but I have no idea what that is....

I think the embassy is here now: The Canadian Embassy Immigration Section Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra 193 Col. Granada 11520 Mexico, D.F
Look into it first. This is where they just had their interview today....they checked out the address you mentioned yesterday and it was incorrect!

Hey guys me again with a question. Do any of you know how can my wife find out who's her minister? Someone mentioned to me here that the minister could help in putting pressure to the embassy, is this true? So, to simplify: 1.- How can I find out who's my sponsor's minister? 2.- How much can he weigh in on immigration matters? Thanks! Edgar
