Maybe this is a stupid question but, what is the different between a regular birth certificate that my SO has and a "certified birth certificate" He also had to get his precartilla this year and the birth certificate they presented him with was fine.

None, as long as it is the original given by the "registro civil"

Okay I am still confused, lol. My SO was born in a state where now all of his family has moved from and he and I have returned to Canada yesterday night (if anyone wants to know the process of what we said let me know and I will post) I am almost positive he has the original given by the "Registro Civil" .. Does that mean we now have to somehow find a way to get one from his state or are we in the clear?

Geeze, just when I think we were done with the Mexican side of the paperwork. Sad

if you have the original from the registro civil and it was issued this year you are clear.

No, unfortunately it wasn't issued this year. Ah, anyone with a spouse born in San Luis Potosi with any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Everyone.

Thanks again for the info, Islenio.

If you provide something for your husband you will need to provide a copy of your marriage too and all that has to be translated to Spanish.
You can always provide proof of address of someone in Mexico that has your family name (parents, brother, sister).

Islenio,

All my family live outside Mexico City, do I need to ask for any proof of address from them or my friend could provide me one with her information.

Thanks...

They don't need to live in Mexico City as long as it is within Mexico, the problem here is that the proof of address has to be from someone with your family name.

So to sum, the requirement is an address of Mexico in the form of water, light bill etc with someone who shares the same the same last name of the Mexican national requesting the constancia?

Also, does anyone know what they mean by this (one of the requirements for constancia as per the embassy of Mexico in Canada website)

10. Considerar que en México se deberá realizar un pago de derechos ante la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público.

Finally has anyone ever used the service Acta Express to obtain a birth certificate from Mexico? If so please let me know how the service is. Thank you.

Thank you.  Nothing new to report YET.  But good news is coming, I CAN FEEL IT!  In the meantime, I'm keeping myself excessively busy.

As a matter of fact, if I were to offer any advice at all to fresh shiny new applicants out there, it would be this:  take up a class or a hobby while you are waiting.  As a coping mechanism it cannot possibly be overrated; and is infinitely more productive than obsessively checking eCas.  Trust me on that one.  Roll Eyes

You sure are right, we have just applied and know we have a long wait ahead of us and it already seems like an eternity. My fiance was deported in August of last year, its been a long haul for him to get on his feet again in mexico after 10 years away. I have been able to visit once and thank goodness for skype !!! But now we have officially submitted our common law application and everything is crossed that he will be home again with us within the next year !

As per La_Ardilla, they sent the passport via UPS back in June, it took two weeks to get the visa and one to two weeks for the embassy to courier it back

YAZ, please keep us posted, we will see how long it takes this time

Iselino, did you use UPS or Fedex to send you passport for stamping?

It says please consider that you will need to pay a fee for the constancia in Mexico

We used UPS, please make sure that they sell you a prepayed waybill to get your passport back and the use their UPS account to pay for the service. if they tell you that they need to enter your credit card on the waybill that is NOT a valid option in Mexico.

Good luck
