I wonder if you can get the PGR on behalf of someone, even if they are not from that state. Nessa, could you ask for me tomorrow?

yay! that´s excellent! We went to get the PGR today in Veracruz. All the papers were okay (we were kind of worried because the letter was directed to the one in D.F.) BUT they wouldn´t accept the pictures because they have to be oval shaped apparently (dosen´t say so on the website!!! Also it´s ¨filiación¨ size and not passport, like it says on the website)! So we went to get new pictures done and they will be ready tomorrow morning! So hopefully we will have better luck tomorrow! Yes, for folks applying from within Mexico, for future reference filiación is indeed oval and super close up!

These are just some thoughts based on the information available, what I've read, and my experience. I am not an expert; if you want the facts, cic.gc.ca has a wealth of information. Good luck with your application! Hope you have a wonderful day *smile*

Question (probably Ohcanadiana can answer this for me =) )
When the letter comes saying that another letter will be mailed out authorizing us to get the PGR, can my SO and I can then go to the embassy of Mexico in Toronto and get a request letter from them for the PGR rather than waiting for the PGR letter? Our current and only mailing address we gave is our home in Canada. Does that mean that they will send it via Mexican correo to our house in Canada or will they send us an email!? I dont think it will make it to Canada! haha.
You could go to the Embassy of Mexico in Toronto NOW ... no point in waiting! That's why I had mentioned in the other post you are in a very lucky situation in being able to speed up the process And, yes, they will mail things to your address in Canada via Correos de Mexico if they are mailing anything. And, yes, it will take forever! I have learned, though, that it does make it (albeit 6-8 weeks later...)

Sure I can ask! But what do you mean exactly? Like get one of your husband´s relatives to go to the PGR in wherever they are living to get it for him? I think OhCanadiana´s suggestion would work better and would be much faster!

Well I always thought that my SO and I could go to the Mexican Embassy in Canada, ask them for the letter which enables us to get the PGR, they check the package and make sure we have everything, sign the carta poder, and then send it to someone in Mexico City (originally) to get the PGR.. Now that it is starting to become available in each state, I am wondering if the process still remains the same!

The Embassy or Consulates of Mexico in Canada will give you a letter of request for the background check. The PGR requires an official request letter to issue/process it - you can't request it yourself 'just because' like you can for many other countries. Yes, you then have to mail it, along with all the other requirements to someone in Mexico to process it for you. If, instead, you want the Embassy of Canada in Mexico to process the background check for you instead, then you'll need to follow their specific process (and you won't need the docs from the Mexican Consulate/Embassy).

Yeah that is what I understood as well So lets say next month we went to go and get the letter from the Mexican Embassy in Canada, does that letter have an expiry date? OhCanadiana you are such a help thank you so much for always helping us understand this complicating process

OhCanadiana you are such a help thank you so much for always helping us understand this complicating process I don't know how long the PGR will accept it for, but I'd aim to run through the process quickly to minimize questions or the request for an updated letter. You're welcome

You're welcome I think as soon as we get AOR we will go to the embassy of Mexico in Canada, request the letter and put together all the documents and send down the papers to Mexico to get the PGR sent in asap.

Thanks for pointing that out, Nessa There you go mc1234 .... I'd still try to have it be as new as possible since they are addressed to the head of the department and all but now you know
