You should go to Mexico.

Its a thought for sure, I have a very good job and a daughter I share custody with, so not a simple decision at this point, but we are certainly looking at the option.

Missmymexi - We are! It was like a huge (4 pound wight to be exact:P) lifted off our shoulders once we sent it in.. we did our best to prove our relationship, now the ball is in their court! We decided we are going to try and wait it out as much as we can here.. My SO is here but him not being able to work really make things tough. If we did decide to go to Mexico, it would be simple for us (generally speaking) since we have no kids, not really into my career yet, etc. So something we are seriously considering, but will not go if we jeopardize the PR application, simply not worth it.

Plus Cancun is almost as expensive to live in as here! So that means we would both have to work double the hours just to maintain a decent standard of living, something I am not sure we are prepared to do .. With Mexico and jobs you never know, and then there is the visas on their end, etc. It makes things very complicated! Choose what is best for your family.

Absolutely, i dont think any of us want to do anything that would jepordize our chances at this point ! I wish he could be here with me but he was deported so we didnt have alot of choice. It was unfortunate because we didnt know about common law sponsorship at the time (since I am in a huge never ending divorce) otherwise I could have applied inland and even if he couldnt work he would still be here. Oh well shoulda woulda coulda ! Just glad that we are counting real days now ! I read on the March forum they are now working on Feb applicants per thier spreadsheet, so thats some good news !

Isnt it ironic that its more difficult to immigrate to Mexico than Canada ! Although as my partner said its easier to live illegally in mexico than Canada, so there you have it ! We are approaching these ideas with alot of caution, most likely we will just try to increase my visits so it doesnt seem so long.

It deftinatly is a lot easier to live without papers in Mexico (as in not get caught), thats for sure. Getting an actual Visa to live there if you have money is faily simple- the tricky one is the FM3 (to work) you need a sponsor to hire you. It is pretty hard to survive there, especially if you are young and need to work and are a foreginer. The highest paid job I had offered to me was 13000 pesos a month. When you break it down its about 45 pesos an hour more or less. When we returned to Cancun in Jan we needed some basic things for our apartment. We didnt bring any from here because we just didnt want to waste the space. Everything is 3x the price as it was in Toronto. My SO was shocked, to say the least. He actually calls cancun, cansquito, because it sucks your money like crazy lol!

That is good news! Myself and a few others were actually long distance for a while with our BFs before we started living together and becoming common-law. I met my SO in Mexico so we were always long distance.. its tough, no doubt about it Sad Just know that its for a good reason and things will get better.. A year apart for a lifetime together and stability when he gets back for a fresh start is better than anything, imo.

P.s I just saw on the april thread your application was recieved April 17th so were pretty close in terms of time!

Yes I did, I just have like 5 inheritances from a Nigerian prince Sad lol.

It's just that a year or two ago, the confirmation email would say that they would reply within 20 business days (and they always did) now the email just says "We will reply as soon as possible" which can be a double-edged sword. Who knows if ASAP means a week or two? or 6 months?  Lips sealed

Oh Canadiana and others I need some clarification.

If my SO and I decide to go to Mexico after I have been approved as a sponsor to wait out the rest of our time there, do I still have to notify the embassy if I am just visiting?
