Lol I live in Mexico City and I feel quite safe, but then again I live and work in nice areas.

I have lived most of my life in Tijuana and nothing ever happened to me or my family, but when we moved to Canada, my dad had his car broken into and they stole his stereo and amplifiers. So yeah  Grin

I guess luck sometimes has to do with it, and also the neighbourhood where you live. I spent last weekend in Veracruz and I felt very safe, but I heard it was pretty bad a few months ago, they laid off the whole police force and the marines took over. They've done a great job there, can't say the same for the army and other areas of the country (Juarez)

I'm not familiar with Oaxaca but I do live in Mexico, about 75 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.  I love it here, I feel safer here than I did living in Vancouver for sure.  The media is so hyped up.  There are more murders in Vancouver and surrounding area than I've ever heard about here.  Everyone is so friendly Smiley

Do you have dual citizenship?

I am a permanent resident of Canada and a U.S. citizen.  That is why I had to leave my hubby in the U.S. and move to the Canada to do the application. We tried applying when I was there in the U.S. but our application was rejected because I did not live in Canada. So now, we are trying it this way. We were going to apply for the green card and then apply for the I-601 waiver (for being undocumented) but it just seemed so dangerous with what was going on in Ciudad Juarez. Recently, an American killed while he was staying  with his wife in Juarez waiting to get her visa. This is the story here:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/09/us/juarez-dangerous-marriage/index.html

President Obama mentioned this year that they will possibly change the law and allow undocumented people wait in the U.S. after they have applied for the waiver. Not sure what is going on with that. At any rate, we decided we would just come to Canada. There are elements that appeal to us about Canada over the U.S.

Queridisimo miembros,

I've got a quick question. After we receive the letter from CIC-Mississauga telling us that our sponsorship was approved and that the file is being transferred to Mexico City, are we supposed to receive a letter from Mexico City visa office telling us that they received it? The reason I ask, is that I checked the e-cas system and when I look under my hubby's name and application number, it says "permanent resident application received Dec. 2" then when I look under my name and UCI number is says "decision made Dec. 2". I know that the "decision made" is likely referring to the sponsorship. Anyway, just wondering what the next step is going to be. Let me know what you guys think is going on. Thanks a million!

It's nice to have someone else in the same situation - almost. Sorry you have to be separated during the process but you can visit right?

We were all set to go to Canada and then got second thoughts when Obama announced the provisional waiver plan since he could stay in the US. But it's still so unsure and risky and complicated. We might try to get the waiver while living in Canada but that will make hardship more difficult to prove. And he would still have to go
To CJ.

I feel bad for him especially because his mother is in the US, undocumented for many many years. And he will
not be able to visit because of the ten year ban. Since he is not on the books anywhere we hope he can get into the US after he becomes a citizen.

I got both an email and a letter. They will give you your file number, I believe most of them start with a B so something like B1234567890 which is the one you'll use to communicate with them, and then they'll let you know if you're missing any documents, if everything is set, then they'll probably need an interview.

Have you thought about what you're gonna do after the interview? Your husband is required to attend the interview in Mexico City, and if he's illegally in the US then he'll have a hard time going back...

My husband didn't have to do an interview in Mexico. They just mailed his visa to the US. But if her husband does have to interview he would have to stay in Mexico till he got his visa. Shouldn't be long though.

Yeah that would be the best case scenario. Everything should be taken into consideration, in a week it will be two years since my interview at the embassy. Just throwing it out there Wink Though I don't wish that upon anyone.

I think we are supposed to get an AOR from Mexico City!  Not sure how long it takes though.  Mine was sent from Mississauga on Jan 31st and I have not heard a word from Mexico ever since.
