Hi. I am Mexican. Recently I asked for a student visa since I was planning on studying a certifcate program at the University of Alberta. My Student visa was issued and everything was ok. I asked my sister to come with me the first week (on vacation), since I would live away from my family for 8 months, and she said yes. We made a lot of plans about what we were going to do in our vacation week, like skiing in Lake louise or visiting Banff, and of course West Edmonton Mall...we were excited about the trip, and of course I wanted her to know the city I would live in the next 8 months. I didn't think she had any problem to get her visa since she has been in other countries, she has no criminal record at all, she is educated, has a university degree, has been in the same job the last 8 years, have bought a terrain in a new golf and residence club here, has a good financial position, good health, and the same family background as I do. In fact, her bank statements showed 3 times the money I show, with the difference that I was going to live 8 months, and she was going on a week vacation. And of course she had a round trip ticket, wich she also attached as a proof. In fact, she sent a letter of her boss, declarating she has her vacation and she had to come back to work after that day. The thing is her visa is denied. I am really angry about this situation. Of course I will cancel my trip and I won't study in Alberta since my family is not welcome there. I would have loved to go to the winter olimpics 2010, but I cant' accept that my sister is not allowed to go to Canada, because I know that this is an unfair decision. I know she could re aply but the truth is, we don't want to. It is humiliating for us to be treated like this. I know that there were a lot of mexicans doing things in the wrong way, but she provided all the information that prooved she is not that kind of person and she has all the requierments to be accepted. What I would like to know is if there is any place where I coudl complain about this so that they know there are some visa officers acting in a racist way, or just not showing any common sense in their decisions.
