Mexican PR Application and Visa

Hey guys, quick question.

While a Permanent Resident application is being processed (either inland or outland), would a Mexican still be required to maintain a Visa to remain in Canada?  Or while the application is being processed their visa is automatically extended?

Unless an extension request or OWP request was included in the INLAND application, then the person must apply for an extension for both inland and outland.
