Congratulations Eng_Mtl, When did you have Medical Results have been received?

I didn't send my passport, but they couldn't keep your passport more than 3 weeks. If you can send prepaid envelope you can track your passport back,

My medicals were received in July 2011

Hi frotenacs

Yes, I just walked in to Buffalo Consulate, stamping there is a fairly straightforward process takes a couple of hours, and another 30 mins back at the border for landing. But don't think you could do that without a valid status or visitor visa for US. Although you might want to explore the option of sending in a Rep on your behalf with an authorization letter for getting your passport stamped.

ndhillon,

Thanks. I will make a short visit to Canada and submit my passport to Buffalo from there. Question is: Can I use a friend's Canadian address for sending and receiving my passport? The address that I have on file is in India.

I'm not sure. As entry to Canada by land is solely controlled by CBSA, I tried to find answer to your question on their website. It just says you require PR card as a resident to travel back (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/security-securite/admiss-eng.html).

Thank you so much Rossei. I really appreciate your efforts.

I found in another thread that people drive across the US border into Canada without PR card. http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/anyone-came-back-to-canada-from-the-us-in-a-car-without-pr-card-t95039.0.html

Also on CIC website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/pr-card/index.asp

Returning to Canada by car:
If you do not present your card when you return to Canada, you may be asked to show one of the following documents:

  •   a completed Confirmation of Permanent Residence form;
  •    the original Record of Landing (if it is dated 1973 or later);
  •    a passport stamped with the date you were granted permanent residence (if your Record of Landing is dated 1972 or earlier);
  •    a certified true copy of a Record of Landing document issued by CIC National Headquarters; or
  •    a letter issued by CIC National Headquarters attesting to your permanent resident status.

The border services officer may also need to confirm your permanent resident status by asking you questions and checking our information systems.

That's good to know. You indeed did a good research on it.
