If you came to canada directly from india, then it puzzles me why you had to provide a Police Certificate for Canada. You shouldn't have to. Something is not right here, not with you but with CIC.

Yea some one got the reply from catherine that " Please dont sent personal email to her regarding  the status of the application. Please send it to buffalo general inbox"  This is the reply for somebody who applied in October.. Probably many of us are senting from this forum..

Thats why I am not going to email her until it is absolutely necessary.

Its really so weird .They need more than 12 months to process application and meantime they issuing ppr with in 4-6 monts of other application.what they need to do to complete the process i can't understand.

That is true, I have wanted to send an e-mail to one of the higher position staff at Buffalo, but again I just decide not to, cos I keep wondering if it is really worth it. It could probably create a problem between me and that particular person.

In some cases where RCMP tracing report releases something unexpected, IO would require PCC for Canada from applicants.

These are my assumption only:

When a file is ready for police clearance, IO input name info on their computer system which is linked to RCMP database. If the name come up as 'no tracable results found', taha, you're done with RCMP clearance checks. If your background does not trigger anything significant, they wouldn't bother requesting background security checks from CSIS. You are done, completely done with background. If your name is unique and you are cleared, you will be likely fallen into this "luckier" group!

Scenario #2, IO input your data, system doesn't say either you are cleared or not cleared because there is similar name with criminal record come up. System recommends IO to request RCMP screening by fingerprint to clear. Raj may fall in to this scenario.

Scenario #3 (the worst one), IO wants to conduct both police clearance (with police) and security clearance (with CSIS, CIA, intelligence agents) before they can clear you. You will never know how and how long this process is going to take. But, only under certain circumstances - to certain applicants - will an IO conduct this kind of screening. This is worse than the worst in terms of processing time because this is out of CIC control.

Note that every case undergone different levels of screening. Why Ottawa can process cases within 4-5 months, maybe because minimal screening files are transferred to Ottawa so they don't have to do much before request PP. One of my relative whose file was tx to Ottawa but then they found out she was missing PCC from her country, they immediately tx the file back to Buffalo and advise her all further processing will be done by Buffalo and she is still waiting now to hear from Buffalo after sending in her PCC. My observation is that Ottawa only handles easy and straight forward cases.

I also have another question for those of you that are "experienced" with these landing procedures. My passport will be expiring in about 8 months, but I am deciding to get a new passport during this time. My current passport has a Port of Entry stamp on. If I get the Visa issued on a new passport and I land with it, will I be getting a new Port of Entry stamp on the new passport or not?
Did any of you receive a port of entry stamp on your passports when you landed, regardless of it being at the border or in the province?

entry date stamp must always be done on your passport whether at border or local office. the stamp will also come with your PR document #. This is proof of your entry into Canada as a PR.

For PR, submitting a police certificate from your home country is a regular requirement.

Re: RCMP Fingerprint Checks, I agree with what TRUONGAN said even though I don't know to what extent it can be fact. Anyway, I know of 2 reasons that may make CIC ask for Fingerprint checks:

• If you entered Canada before age of 18
• If you are a national of some "listed" countries or stayed/visited some of them before applying for PR

By "listed", I meant the countries that are politically unstable or potential threat to North America (according to US/Canada). No offence, but that's reality. I've listed some of those countries in Students/Visitors section of this forum.

This happened to my case as well, sad... they should have told us to include fingerprints with application before we submitted everything to Buffalo VO.

Thnaks for the detailed message.. Yes I ma planning for bus transportation.. But my friend is there.. Most probably he will drive.. But in case...as a backup I will preapre for bus trip..  IN between u mentioned about niagara falls.. I assume I have to land first and then only she can land.. So probably I have to go there a day before she comes..and land and then wait for her.. Correect me if I am wrong..

I haven't landed myself yet, but have helped numerous friends land by driving them to Niagara or just going with them in the bus.

First, you need to land either with your wife or before... So you better make that trip to the border before she comes.

If your friend is driving you, that's better and more convenient, you may follow what Tanoshi told and go to Peace Bridge and make a U-turn. Peace Bridge is at the Fort Erie - Buffalo border. However, keep in mind, that if you miss the U-turn by mistake, you'll end up at the American side. You have to explain the American Border officials that you came for landing and do not wish to enter US. The Americans will give you a letter refusing entry into US (assuming you don't have US visa) and send you back to Canada. This is normal, but, in the future if you are planning to apply for a US visit visa, you have to declare 'every time you were declined entry into the United States on their form'. So if your friend doesn't have US visa or is not a citizen, you want to avoid troubling your friend with this hassle. (A friend of mine had 2 'refusal of entry' letters from the US side, he had a tough time in his interview for US visa, though was granted one. He also had a tough time entering US for the first time after getting his visa and getting his I-94)

I agree Rainbow Bridge is busy, it's right in front of the falls!! But if you go there at night or early morning, it should be fairly free. You can take a Bus to Niagara falls, ON or ask you friend to drive you there.. Then, WALK across the bridge and enjoy the amazing sight . Go to the American side, and come back walking. Atleast 3 of my friends have done their landing by walking back. The Rainbow bridge is open to Pedestrians crossing the border. The toll for Pedestrians is 50cents  (so make sure you have change). If you avoid rush hours, this process will only take you about half an hour.
