Depends where you are.  Contact the local approved medical examiner and inquire.

It was around £260 for mine in the UK.

You can find a designated medical practitioner here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/index.asp

Which doctors did you use Mike? I'm thinking of heading to Manchester to get mine done.

Also does anyone know whether children need a medical, i've seen split opinions on this, some say yes, some say no... but i can't find anywhere a direct answer. My children are 5 and 2, if anyone could answer that'd be great, thanks,

"when all else fails, read the instructions"

Every applicant requires a medical,

The person you want to sponsor and, if applicable, his or her family members will have to:
• sign the Agreement (form IMM 1344B);
• complete the forms included with The Immigrant's Guide and provide appropriate
documentation in support of their application;
undergo a medical examination (results of the medical examination are valid for 12
months);

From the DMP handbook

    *  complete physical examination for all family members;
    * chest X-ray and a radiologist's report for everyone aged 11 years and over;
    * blood test for everyone aged 15 years or over;
    * urinalysis for everyone aged 5 years or over;
    * HIV testing for everyone aged 15 years or over, as well as for children who have received blood or blood products, or have a known HIV mother.
