How strict is it? What makes you inadmissable or requires explanation? What about smoking cigarettes? Random question haha but just wondering! Thanks again!

Don't worry. Smoking cigarettes isn't a problem. It it were, I'm guessing alot of people would get denied!

The medical exam typically involves a physical exam (in our case, very very very brief), blood test, urine test, chest xray and HIV test. They're basically just checking to see that you don't have some disease that would be a danger to the health and safety of Canadians. So something like active TB or syphilis could lead to a refusal, otherwise you're pretty much good to go. Unlike other immigration categories, spouses are exempt from the excess demand clause so they cannot be denied if they have a medical condition that may cause "excessive demand" on the medical or social system. They could only be denied due to public health and safety concerns.

Okay thank you. All of my questions are coming out now that i am preparing our application! I have no serious illnesses. A weak immune system and all but nothing that would hurt anyone! When is it advised to take the exam? I am sending my app in Feb. Waiting on my marriage certificate.

Best to take the exam as close to sending the application as possible. It's only valid for one year and if you don't get your visa by the time it expires, you would have to redo it. Also, when the visa is issued, it's only valid until the medical exam expires (or if your passport expires before then, they use the passport expiration date) so the later you do it, the more time you will have to do the landing.

Thank you as always! If cic recieves the exam before my app its okay? If i file in feb i will take my exam around the end of jan if it doesnt matter when cic recieves the results. Thanks again i didnt know it effected your landing! My passport is valid until 2019 so thats good!

That would be fine. You always have to do the medical before sending your application since you need to send proof the medical exam with your application. Also the medical result isn't sent directly to the visa office but to the Regional Medical Centre responsible for your area. When your application is received by the visa office, they will request the medical results from the RMC.

it will help you only with your visa issuance limits - i.e. your entrance visa will be valid longer
