Medical Exam - Cost, and recommended DMPs

Hi all,

I am being sponsored by my gf for Perm. Residency; we have 1 full year common law, etc.

I need to get the medical exam done; I have read all the guides etc, fairly clear.

Questions:
1- What is the typical final cost for the medical exam?
2- We live in Toronto, Yonge & Eg region. Can anyone recommend a local DMP?

I used Dr. John Kulhmann at 666 Burnhamthorpe in Etobicoke. Phone is 416.622.0933. It cost about $200 CAN plus the cost of the xray at another location. I got an appointment fairly quickly but was disappointed to see a line out the door when I got there. I showed up right at the appt time and had to wait about 3 hours. If you use him, I suggest you go early.

That is who my hubby used.  He got an appointment within a week of calling and was in and out of his appointment within an hour.  Only had to go somewhere else for the bloodwork and x-ray (he has REALLY tricky veins or they would have done it there) and even both of those were fairly quick.

I got mine done in Hamilton Ontario at Wilson Medical Centre Dr C Karpilow Phone # 905-526-6250..I called and got an appointment 3 days later, I paid $240 which included Medical Exam, Blood Work and Ex-rays, eye test etc..

I hope you find a good DMP with a good price..I have heard of people paying up to $400 for their Medical

I used Dr. Kline from that list and they did a good job. It's 180 for the exam and another 25 for the blood work. The blood work can be with a card but the exam has to be paid in cash. Be sure to tell them it is for an outland application.

UPDATE -

Medical Check done.
 - Albany Clinic : new address is 807 Broadview
 - Dr. Kline, 3rd Floor, for initial examination - very informal, tick the boxes, have a nice chat, no problems.
 - Blood samples given downstairs,
 - Chest XRay on same level

Total Cost - $185.

A lot of waiting: arrived 2pm for 2.30 appointment, waiting until 3.30. Then more waiting downstairs. Not out and done until 5.15.

Painless, efficient process once it got started.

Thanks for your update. Just a couple of questions -

Did you have to pay in cash as the other comment said or do they accept cc?
Did you call beforehand for an appointment? How soon after you called did they see you?

I had 2 medicals (workpermit and PR application) with more than a year in between.

I went to dr Kuhlmann and dr Carreno-Segura.

I would def recommend dr Carreno-Segura.

Had to wait like 25 min despite having an appointment, which was fine by me. Secretary very friendly and seems to know what she was doing (didn't have any issues - file nicely forwarded etc) The doctor is older and very friendly as well. The exam does not take long and he actually treats you like a person.
Big advantage is also that the blood work and X rays are in the basement of the building. So no driving around like you would have to do if you go to dr Kuhlmann. The price was very reasonable when I heard about what other people pay for medicals I am sure it was not more than $150. You pay everything separately and I believe cash only (not sure though)

Also the blood work and the X ray - register yourself at both places (they are on opposite sides of the lower level), so you don;t have to wait too long

As of today, went to this Toronto approved doctor, everything in the same building, pay cash to Dr $90.00 + 36.75 for Chest X Ray and 11.25 for Blood work, receipts issued for all tests and Doctor exam. $136 in total bring cash and some change as they expect exact change everywhere. They're located Bathurst and College.  The whole process is quick, streamlined and all within the same building.  Lots of Spanish people in building doing the same thing.  I recommend them.  Phoned one other doctor around the corner from where I live and they want $190 plus tests!  So phone around for price, as it seems there is a sliding scale.  

Be aware these tests/examinations must be complete 30 days prior to the expiration date on the Visitor Record = Read the fine print!

Do not get yourself caught in a rejection at the airport on a technicality, it says it right on the Visitor Record.  Don't listen to friends who tell you to ignore this requirement, they will and regularly reject anyone who has not complied with the requirement at the airport and further detain you as you are officially illegal in the country at that point.

I would like to go to him since the location is good for me, but I am having doubts because I can't see him listed on the CIC list of DMP's. I am wondering how you found out about him and if he is approved by the CIC?
