Hello all,

As my wife received her PPR yesterday, I am starting to look up on the medical coverage we need to get for her for the first 3 months before she can receive her healthcare card. How much does it cost more or less? Any good companies with good services? As I am not in the best economical situation, I am looking for something good and cheap also, that will cover most of the urgent stuff...

Any good recommendations. I was looking at Desjardins in Quebec, but it is about $400 for 3 months, which is a bit expensive for me, but if they are all the same price, well, what can one do.

Thanks for your input everybody!

I've used this one twice now, without problems:  http://www.etfsinc.com/

it's about $100 per month (for me, I'm sure it depends on age and medical history).

Hey if you go to www.settlement.org there is a medical cover section there with lots of other information about moving to canada hope it helps. Smiley

I've also looked into cover and its been between $350 and $400 for the 3months not cheap by anymeans.

I am using Croix Bleue du Québec. You pay per day, but it is just over 100$ a month. Make you sure you tell them that she has had the immigrant medical exam (which gave me a less expensive rate, for some reason). There is "visitor" and "immigrant" coverage and have them check both to see which would be cheaper for her. I got one one time, and the other the next, because it was cheaper for the interval of time I bought it for.

I bought 100 days' worth (this most recent time) but will cancel the last 30 days, because my RAMQ waiting time is- for some reason- less than three months. I have no idea why, but I am not complaining! Also, be sure to register with RAMQ ASAP after she lands. We did it the very next day, just to get the clock started!

I use Croix Bleu as well, every time i go back as non-resident; they r very proffessional, i even get refunded Cheesy actually, for some it takes around 2 months to get the Carte Soleil so i suggest u'll take it first for around 60-70 days and then renew for 10 more days, 10 more days, etc....if u use credit card everything can b done online, it's very easy
also, note that all this insurance companies cover in general emergencies only and if u declare u have an ongoing/cronical condition it will b more expensive; also they don't cover pregnancy
