MBA
« on: December 01, 2011, 06:39:05 am »

Hello members

I just want to know what is the procedure to determine how many years open work permit student will get after MBA studies. Studies from some institutions does not lead to work permit. How to find whether student will be eligible for open work permit after study? More precisely, I want to know about Lakehead University. They have one year MBA program and accepts GRE in lieu of GMAT.

hey enfield

I was really waiting for your reply. I mailed them asking about credit hours and waiting for response. But will I get work permit? There are some institutes whose degrees does not lead to PG work permit. Do this University fall under that category? Its confirmed that student from this University can apply for off campus work permit after 6 months (received confirmed mail from them). Please reply....and comment on reputation too if you have any idea.
Thank you

Hi,

1. This school is qualified for off campus as well as PGWP.

2. It's an average MBA school. It's in Ontario, might be good in searching for jobs. I hope you might be aware, the completion of statistics is one of the requirements of admission.

Hi,

I am a prospective MBA student so I am very sure CAD 23,000 (or upto CAD 30,000) is very low tuition for MBA.

For schools like

Sauders Business Schools (UBC) : CAD 62,000

John Molson : CAD 52,000

Asper School of Business : CAD 37,000

In short, MBA runs in thousands of CAD. It's like an investment for whole life, really not a cheap option.

*As far as I know, still two MBA's look quite low in tuition:

1. Memorial Newfoundland University (may be it's a good school, but really the local job market is bad)

2. University of Regina (low grade school, low job chances, Regina as a city is number 1 in crimes in Canada)

yeah, that is what I am saying
Its like investment. My plan so far is to do marketing mgmnt at Fanshawe and 1 yr MBA at Lakehead. Then it will become easier at-lest to secure '1' job. As you said in above post, its in ontario and easy to hunt job. Hunting is key in Canada.
By the way, Enfield where you will be doing your MBA?? I mean which Univ??

Hi,

Most of your problems get solved if you take GMAT. Score is valid for 5 years.

Ontario may be a good place but it's also a place of 5 top ranking MBA business schools. In other words, intense competition even for a small business related jobs.

Hi,

Anyway you have one more option,

Marketing Management at Fanshawe + 1 year MBA at Lakehead = 3 years of PGWP.

bt I was thinking to transfer after first sem....ok then, if this leads to 3 yrs then fine. Its better evn if i add PG marketing since MBA at lakehead is general. My resume will look strong with 2 canadian degrees.
