Put wife and children on application now, everyone gets PR at the same time. More hassle filing after landing. The wife and children can follow later if desired....Mandie

And one more thing. That he will have to include Wife/Children in the application, and declare if they are "Accompanying" or "Not Accompanying". Everyone will have to undergo Medical exam, irrespective of them going with u or not.
The only difference will be Proof of funds, and the application fee and the docs for family. Somehow I also think that you may be asked the reason for not inducing or taking them with you, but, not sure about it.

Your friend should also take the following in consideration (in addition to the suggestions made by mandie and devil):

1. The cap for this yr (July-30th Jun 2012) is only 500. He will have to monitor that closely.

2. He will not get any points for spouse, if she is not Accompanying.
