I am a UK citizen and have been in Canada fo about 18 months on temporary visitor visas (with extensions). I am now engaged to a canadian lady and we want to get married here in Canada. Can we legally do this while on a visitors visa and does it change my status. Can i then work after we get married or do I still need to apply for a different form of visa?
Thanks in advance

You can legally get married in Canada while on a visit status but it will not automatically change anything.  Your spouse has to sponsor you for permanent residency.  The fastest way to do that would be to apply through Mississauga and the UK.  See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp for your forms.  Average processing time through London is about 5 months to get your PR and then you can work.  During the processing time, you have to make sure your visit visa stays valid by extending again when it's about to expire.

I am impressed with the 18 months of extensions that you have achieved.
I am just starting my first request for an extension, so I can get married to my Canadian Fiancee (I am a Brit). Once married we will start the PR process.
Can I ask about some of the details you provided for your extension? It sounds like you have the process sorted.

I got married being on a visitor visa. it doesn't automatically change your status, if you have a work permit, you can surely work, otherwise you can apply inland for sponsorship and get a work permit that way.
