Just a quick question that came to my head earlier today.... my wife is expecting to get her visa soon! so I was wondering, would we have to get our marriage registered in Canada somehow? or how does that work? thanks!

Smiley I hope it's really soon.

My husband submitted a copy of our marriage certificate to Revenue Canada to change his status with the tax authorities to married.  He took the original marriage certificate to them, I think he filled out a form, and they took the form and made a copy of the certificate.

He also took it to some other places where he needed to make it known that he had an additional dependent, such as ODSP, and to his accountant.

To my knowledge you don't need to register your marriage in Canada. If it was legal wherever you got married, it is legal in Canada as well.
(I did some research into this since we are going to have a destination wedding)

As long as you were married in a country that Canada recognizes the marriage you're good. As Charlie mentioned you should send in a copy of your marriage license with your tax return and that is all you need, you only need to send it once.
