Deat friends,

What happens if an applicant gets his PR Visa stamped on the passport and gets married before completing landing formalities in Canada as he/she would have one year from the date of medicals to migrate? What process will be involved to initiate spouse's application and when (before or after landing)?

Kindly share your experience, knowledge and thoughts on this issue.

Best wishes to every one..

You must return the visa and submit the paperwork for your spouse. This is the only option. Once your spouse's paperwork is processed, CIC will issue a visa to your spouse and re-issue a visa to you.

Do not land in Canada on the visa you have now. If you do that, you will never be able to sponsor your spouse. On top of that, you will be committing misrepresentation by landing as a single individual when you are in fact married. Misrepresentation can result in having your PR status revoked.

Return your visa and add your spouse to the application now.

Thanks for responding. I am doing my medicals tomorrow and hope to get visa in the next 3-4 months. I am 26 yrs old bachelor so there is no misrepresentation. Marriage is just a thought at this stage which has to happen sooner or later. Is there a time restriction on a PR holder to get married after landing and sponser his/her spouse ?

Cheers..
