mailing address on application: can i use my Nova Scotia mailing address?

hiya:

i'm just getting started. a "family class" application, sponsored by my husband. so it's the "outside the country" route -- because my real, legal residence is in New York state -- but we're filing while i'm actually, literally inside Canada, in Nova Scotia. (i'm still just starting to figure this paradox out... but this was the advice of an immigration lawyer, that this was our best route.)

so on the Application for Permanent Residence form (IMM-0008), I need to supply both "mailing address" and "residence address." really, my mailing address -- where mail will reach me soonest -- is Nova Scotia. and my residence address is in New York.

am i allowed to have my mailing address be in Canada?
