Our embassy here issued us Manual Passports (hand written) as they still do not have machine readable passport equipment.

We are confused. We heard that CHC won't accept the manual passports. But if we change them they may equally damn us.

Although we are far from PP request from CIC but i've two questions;
1- Should we go back to home country and change passport unsolicited?
2- Or keep our manual passport as it is and send it to CHC when asked and then take action if they require us to change passports?

pls advice.

Manager,
My earlier passport (on which I got my PRV in 2008) was not a machine readable passport and there was no question asked from CHC.

Stick to Option -2

Dont forget, there are lot of countries still issues a handwritten Passport. So, nothing to worry about that, CHC are aware about all the changes to the Countries.

Option#2 will do. There is no major problem to worry about.

Well i think its is OK to keep option 2 until you are asked to do.
Option 1 may raise questions.

I found this in the CIC website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-who.asp
I think the non-machine readable passport is still valid considering this statement.

Travel documents
Transport companies, such as airlines, must ensure you have proper, valid travel documents when you enter Canada. If you do not have the proper documents, you may be delayed or denied boarding.

On March 11, 2010, CIC amended the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations to clarify the factors used to determine which travel documents can be used to apply for a visa, and to travel to or enter Canada.

Under the new Regulations, the following travel documents are considered unreliable and are not acceptable for entry into Canada:

•any passport claiming to have been issued by Somalia,
•non-machine readable passports issued by the Czech Republic,
•temporary passports issued by the Republic of South Africa, and
•provisional passports issued by Venezuela.
This list is subject to change. Check it regularly for up-to-date information.

CHC mentions clearly in PPR what and how passport should contain information of applicant. If all is covered, nothing to worry about
