Thanks for the site developers for the opportunity to write this question. My husband sponsoring me as a spouse inland. We already passed the Vengrevile step and they sent our file to Vancouver local CIC office in March 2010, BUT without first stage of approval. Since that time, no more news, nobody call. How long to wait for the interview from local CIC and when usually they send me open work permit we applied? Please... people who had same situation, share your experience!!!

They will not send you an open work permit. You did not receive first stage approval. Your next step is for interviews for you and your spouse to determine genuineness of the marriage or to address whatever the outstanding issue(s) may be. This could take 12 to 18 months. Vancouver local office is pretty backlogged from last I heard. I recommend ordering the FOSS notes to see what the issues are.

Vancouver is back logged due to the refugee ship that arrived in Victoria. Unfortunately, you will be in for a long wait and if an interview is done and CIC are convinced your relationship is genuine, then it will only proceed you to AIP not PR.
Sorry about your situation right now.

CIC in Vancouver was backlogged well before that ship arrived. You will only receive PR if the officer that interviews you and your spouse determines that your relationship is genuine. AIP means Approval in Principal.

True, so Vancouver is even more back logged LOL
AIP is first stage approval, this is usually when Inland applicants receive their Open Work Permit. In some cases, like yours, an interview is requested before they give the First Stage Approval. After AIP is granted and depending on how much more information CIC require, PR status can anything from 4 weeks to 8 months. I was lucky, I was given AIP on 27th April 2010 and got my PR on 20th May, landed inland at Vancouver.

Supposedly the department that deals with refugee ships is totally separate from the one that deals with actual paper applications. So the arrival of 500 refugees on a ship shouldn't make the backlog worse.
It seems like most of the local offices have backlogs. I wish that wasn't the case, because I still haven't been approved as a sponsor, and it has been nearly a year!

Hi Justina Sorry to hear about your long wait. Do the FOSS notes indicate what the hold-up might be? Best of luck

The OWP application keeps your status valid until they reach a decision on the application or first stage approval. Since you haven't been flat out refused for AIP, you should still have implied status. Unless this has been posted some place else then this is my understanding of it.

Oh really?. I didnt know that! well i wasnt sure about my OWP. Also my application still says "In process". When i spoke with the CIC. agent i was abit confused. His exact words were they MAY call me for an interview and they may not!. . So i asked him why they didnt transfer my file to victoria. he said for my case the nanaimo office was most suitable. !. which left me with 100000 questions. aiyaiyaiyaiya i really hate this feeling!> I feel lik im physically ill. i hope and really hope im not waiting for 2 years to get an interview. that is my worst fear. I thought i nwas so organised i had planned this for a long time but this an unexpected turn that has caught me unawares.
