I live here in the Philippines with my wife and have done for the past 2 years. I would like to sponsor her to Canada from here. I have not worked the past several years and have lived off savings and investments. I have enough savings to support us there for at least 4 years.
Has anyone applied under similar circumstances...and how much money in savings was needed in lieu  of income, in order to apply?

Thanks

there is no income requirement to sponsor a spouse. just provide proofs that you can support her when she gets here. you have to have the Option C -Print out from CRA which shows all your income from latest tax year. if you cant provide it, have a written explanation.

goodluck!

Hi, may I ask if you are PR or a Citizen? LadyR is right that there is no minimum income required if you are sponsoring a spouse (only). However, if you are a Canadian citizen and you are sponsoring from outside Canada, you must also provide proof that you will go back to Canada.

to quote http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp#overview

If I live outside Canada, may I sponsor?

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor a spouse, a common-law partner or conjugal partner, or a dependent child who has no children of his or her own. However, you must demonstrate that you will live in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.

Note: Permanent residents residing abroad may not sponsor from outside of Canada. Canadian citizens travelling as tourists are not considered to be residing abroad.
