I'm in the process of applying for a job in Canada and would like to move back there soon. I'm a Canadian citizen but haven't lived there since 1992 and my Canadian passport has expired, is there any problem with me traveling to, and staying in Canada on my Irish passport??

If not, should I apply for my SIN before I get there?

No problem.  You can use your Irish passport for travel and show your expired Canadian passport to the officer that you are Canadian.
