I was about to paste that same link here about "The Nanny Business"..maybe we can send her our letter. Can you help me search for the right contact details of Susan McClelland.

I already forward our letter to her susanmcclelland @ bell.net It's better if all of us will thank her for that documentary and at the same time asking her to help us reach Minister Jason Kenney.

OMG, do this really happen? Do the "agencies" take the passports away from the nannies?  I cannot believe it. I think the nanny business doesn't finish after 2 years. After 24 months the nannies have to wait until collect all the paperwork, forms, and fees, to send to immigration Canada. Then what?... Wait for 13-14 months until you hear from immigration, meanwhile if you have a job, if you have EI, lucky you, if not, starve yourself to save money and survive.
It never ends.  Soo heart breaking.

I really hope they will listen and help those under the LCP..... I'm am not a CG but I am a dependent of one and I salute you guys for all the hardship you've done and still dealing with. Lucky for those who still have work until they get their OWP, but unfortunately for those who have expired WP, like my husband, whose work permit expired last august and he did not renew it thinking that after four months (the processing time back then was 8-9 months) he's going to receive his OWP. But everytime we get close to the finish line it moves 1 month further. He got sick last December and without OHIP he can't go to the doctor because of his limited budget. Our debts is reaching up to the ceiling especially now that the new school year is going to start.... And as for us dependents, according to the letter I received we have to wait 21 months (before it was 12-15 months) for the processing of our visa. So much for family reunification  Cry.
Just continue what you guys are doing and eventually all of the hardwork and patience will pay off.....

hi guys...

how many of you here who applied for EI and were approved?

because i am applying for EI and they ask a lot questions and say that they are going to do research for information regarding my status...

i explained to them that i submitted my papers for OWP and PR last oct 2010 and most of the prospective employers i talked to need a long term commitment and some need someone who can to start immediately, and others don't want to do the paperworks to process LMO etc... and i told them that we need the open work permit to be able to find work...

well i hope if they do the research, i hope that they will do realize that they need to process our open work permit the soonest because most of us will just apply for EI while waiting for OPW...

I did and I'm on it now.  I feel you, I did try to look for another LIC job after doing 2-years with another employer.  But yeah i got the same reaction from all the employers who interviewed me.  They worry about the time i could commit to them considering that I am already done with the program.

Yeah they asked my employer the reason why they didn't keep me after I'm done with the contract.  They also talked to me on the situation i was in after I left my employer.

Hi sweetchad,

I do have a valid work permit but its only good for the last employers I worked with.  If I would be working for a new employer then I need a new  permit for that.  So I guess It doesn't really matter if your work permit has already expired or does it?  Well I'm not really an expert on this. Just keep us posted and let us know how things are going.

When more and more live-in caregivers after two years under this program are starting to apply for EI, I think the government will consider this situation and CIC have to speed the processing time for OWP.

Either that or they'll think about how to get away from paying EI to LIC applicants.  Sad
