Hi,

Is this true that live-in caregiver getting into Canada this 2009 don't have any more chance to apply for permanent residence? There is a change on the live-in caregiver program. I just heard that this is so but I can't find any information on the net substantiating this.

Thanks.

As of today, you still can, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/extend-stay.asp

The stories saying they are changing it could be evil rumours but they could also be something that immigration is planning on doing.  BCguy might know something, he probably has the best connections of everybody here.

Oh, not nice.  You keep us waiting in suspense.  Can you not even give a hint about if it's an evil rumour or if there is some truth to it?

Whenever immigration changes the rules, they are not just playing with paper, they are playing with peoples lifes.  A woman who's left kids and husband behind for 2 years to earn a PR for her family might find out only at the end of it that it's all for nothing because they rules got changed.  That is not fair.  I hope if they change the rules, they will only apply it to the people who are coming in as a live in caregiver after the change.

Of course the way they changed the rules for the FSW was not really fair either.  Announcing the rule change in small print and applying it to all new applications for months before the new rules actually got posted.  They shouldn't work that way.  In my opinion, if they want to change the rules, do it but don't make it retro-active.

Basically without going into details,ALL CAREGIVERS HERE IN CANADA are fine under the current system,But there are some proposals on the table to IMPROVE THE SYSTEM,This was raised in a forum in Coquitlam which he attended with Caregivers

If this will be implemented, this change is not beneficial to the caregiver, it's not improving the program so why this is even considered in the first place.

If what will be implemented?  He never said what the proposed changes are.  I am sure CIC is keeping it a secret until they decide if and what changes they want to make.  The rumours that they will not get PR anymore could be completely false.  The changes could be anything.

Yes and he never said that would be implemented.  He said that there are some proposals on the table to improve the system.  He never said what they are.

That said, it's up to Canada immigration to decide what is beneficial to Canada.  They are not really in business to make things beneficial for the immgrants but in all fairness, if they do change something, hopefully they will not apply it to people who are already in the program.

In all fairness, we could also question why should live-in-caregivers be allowed to apply for PR after two years when other low-skilled workers have to go home?
