Live in Care giver is pregnant

Hi,
I have a question about our Nanny, she has been working for our family for just over a year and has just told me that she became pregnant when she recently married. She is here working for two years to become a Canadian however she is due before her two years are up. She has no other family here and her husband lives back in the Philippines. What are our responsibilities to her if any and what are her options for citizenship? I hate to think that her chance to become a Canadian could be ruined because she cannot meet the 24 month work requirement but I also do not want to get saddled with someone else's responsibility - HELP!!!

Not too sure, but contact the Canadian Canadian Caregiver's Association and they can tell you..

The caregivers association is a good idea and you can also look up the labour standards in your province and even phone them to find out about your rights and responsibilities as an employer of a pregnant woman. She has to complete her 2 years work in a 3 year period so if she goes back for a few weeks to have the baby and leaves it with her husband or other relatives, she could come back and complete her 2 years of work. She could also get EI maternity benefits and have the baby in Canada.
